Jewelry for Good

Jewelry has always been a beautiful aspect to accessories. It’s the finishing touch on an outfit. It’s the crème da la crème to a masterpiece that is you! We love jewelry, hence our on-going series of jewelry knowledge. Furthermore, we also love jewelry companies that give back to the community whether through donations or sustainability. Below is a list of designers we have enjoyed that give back in a big way.

Amano Studios

Founded by Seana, a UC Berkeley graduate, she wanted to incorporate design as a tool of economic development in the Mexican artisan communities. Fast forward, Seana has a place established in Sonoma California, partnering with American craftspeople and manufactures to create a high quality fashion jewelry line made in the USA.

They have a program where you purchase a $100 donation to their local homeless shelter. You in return receive 10 pieces of jewelry, all chosen by Amano from samples and discontinued items. They make a donation of $100 on your behalf and a receipt emailed to you. Sounds intriguing to you? Come shop here.

Larissa Loden

From the place of the upper Midwest, this Minnesota jewelry owner had always been intrigued by the arts. However she didn’t know much about jewelry until her art teacher had given her a handmade necklace as a graduation gift. From there it opened the doors to a whole new world.

Each piece supports a woman-mother-artist owned business (that’s them) and helps to build a growing community. Their styles range from minimalistic to minimalist, but are always artist-designed and handmade at affordable price points.

The company gives back to the community, by donating 5% of their annual proceeds to Cookie Cart. Cookie Cart teaches life, leadership and employment skills to teens of color. This is done through on the job training and classroom experiences at non-profit bakeries.

Catbird NYC

In 2004, Rony opened up Catbird selling her favorite things. What started out as a cheap busted storefront selling clothes, elbow patches, and iron-ons, spiraled Rony into the ever evolving world of jewelry. Whether making it herself, or finding jewelry designers to work with, Rony created an iconic and beautiful brand.

Known more than just their brand, Catbird has a giving fund that they created to give back to the community. They vote as a company on which organizations to support and at least 1% of all sales, year round, are donated to non-profit organizations aligned with their core belief of equality and helping others. On their website they have resources to which companies they donated to, which is incredible to see.

Not only do they give back they are also proud of their sustainability as well. They work almost exclusively with recycled gold and diamonds. They make everything in their Brooklyn studio with little carbon footprint. They also consider the impact of every decision made. How incredible is that?
